There will be a few ways to teach responsibility. Obviously, the first will be their education, and keeping up with their school work. With that said, I would make it a point to do homework when returning home from school. This way, they can learn priorities. Chores will give a sense of duty, and self-respect. I will teach a child how to budget which will be real world experiences, and this will even help increase their basic math skills. They will learn about taxes, and costs of living. I will show them the family budget, and they will see on a grander scale of how a budget works. Since I am so used to doing everything on paper and pen, I will need to teach myself how to use Apple Numbers which is the spreadsheet for MacOS.
When they are allowed to have a cellular phone, they will be responsible for the phone bill. They will have to make decisions on whether the cost of phone service aligns with their goals and ideas. I won’t require that they have a cellular line, and there will be a home phone line which they can use as well. Also, anything else they may wish to have, they will have to pay for it. Obviously, I will be responsible for their essentials, but their wants will come out of their debit account. Since every child will have their own bank account, they will be able to use that money as they see fit.
All of these things will teach responsibility. They will also learn in making sound financial decisions, and learn to take pride in themselves while respecting others. All of this increases the role of responsibility.
