Ready Fare Card

PRT’s new fare card will be acquired for the child. Anyone 8-12 will receive a ½ fare card which will be used to cover for their bus fare. As with any other fare card, a payment will constitute their pass, even if it is the 3 hour pass. Once the child turns 12, they will have to get a full fare card unless they are disabled, and therefore will receive a special half-fare card because of their impairment. The card will be registered to them, and therefore will be theirs.

The card can have $200 loaded on the card as a maximum pool of funds. They can also have 2 passes loaded on the card. One pass is the current pass, and the second one is their next pass. They can have the following passes available to them:

  • 7 Day Pass
  • 31 Day Pass
  • 365 Day Pass

Any child that would use PRT to get to school will receive a 31 day pass so they can go to school without worrying about funds on the card. They can also use the pass for other trips than school and home. This will help teach the child how to use the public transit system, and get them from point A to point B. The 31 day pass will make it easy for the child to have the transit needs.

When the child leaves my custody, they will have to account for their own passes. They will be able to keep the $200 which I am sure they can use to pay for a pass, but this might eat half of their available funds, so this is not even a short term solution. Assuming the child uses PRT to go to school, I will imagine they can work with the school to get funds to cover for their pass.
