Every child coming into my foster care will receive a gift of $10,000. This money will be deposited into their bank account, and will be able to be used for whatever the child wishes to invest the money in. If they have an interest in photography, or videography, then they might get a camera. If they are a gamer, they might want to buy an Xbox, or Playstation. They don’t have to spend the money, and it could just sit into their account for whatever they may wish to have in the future. However, this is a gift, and intended to make the child’s time living with me a little more comfortable. The exception is they will need to have a PC, and a phone. Since this is a significant amount, they wil be able to choose what they want instead of me assuming what they might want.
I will make the child responsible for acquiring their own computer, phone, smartwatch, and a tablet if that is something they may want to do. If a computer is just something to get school work done, and maybe email while browsing the web, then a powerful machine might not be important to them. If they however aspire to be a videographer, or make YouTube videos, then a more powerful computer will be desired while sacrificing in something else. The child must acquire a computer, and a phone. They will need to be able to do their school work, and they must be able to communicate with the people important to them.
While some may say that $10,000 is excessive, keep in mind that they are again – required to get everything they need. Rather than making a decision on what computer they will get and give them less, or the same thing with the phone, they will be able to make decisions for everything they want, and whatever is left is theirs. This assures that the child will have a setup that is important to them. For things they need now, I will deduct their choice from the $10,000 and when they receive their bank’s debit card, I will fund their account therefore giving them choices for anything more.
