Key Card

There will be no keys issued. However, I am not going to lock out the child. Instead, they will receive a plain black card that they will insert into their wallet. The card will use RFID, and NFC to unlock the doors, and gain entry. If their card gets lost or stolen, they will notify me immediately so their card can be replaced. Assuming they need their card to be replaced, it will mean that the old card is disabled, and no one will be able to use that key card to get inside. My goal for the locks will be to make sure there is always good batteries, and no key hole as a key hole is a step in the wrong direction for security.

When the child leaves my custody, they will have to give the card back to me. This will mean they won’t have access to my apartment, and if they were to be allowed to visit, they will have to ring me just like anyone else.
