The child will receive an Amazon Basics 512GB thumb drive. This drive will support both USB-A, and USB-C. I will also load features on the thumb drive depending on the OS? they will wish to have. All options will include an app similar to DropBox that would connect to the secondary drive provided to the child. This secondary drive will provide for all of the resources, and will offer syncing options.
MacOS, and Windows will have the LibreOffice installer on the drive. This is an alternative to MS Office, and will read 95% of all Office files, and will provide full compatibility to all Office files when creating new files. This is an alternative to the $10/month subscription that the child might have to pay for if their platform is MS Office. There will be no need to load LibreOffice on Linux PCs. This is because Linux is already installed as the standard office suite. The installer for the secondary drive will however remain.
The child can load projects, and homework on the thumb drive. This will allow the child to have their school resources in one place. Also, the thumb drive can be used to transfer files to another computer, or receive files from another computer. I will warn the child against inserting their thumb drive into ports they are not confident about. Just like not installing software from untrusted developers, the same should be considered with untrusted computers.
When the child leaves my custody, they will be able to take their thumb drive with them. The child will be able to use the thumb drive as they see fit. However, the child should caution about inserting untrusted thumb drives into their computer.
